Grettel Navasdeutsch

Grettel Navas is assistant professor in the department of Political Studies at the School of Government at the University of Chile. Her areas of expertise include environmental justice, political ecology and ecological economics. She is particularly interested in the study of socio-environmental conflicts related to agrochemical pollution in Chile and Latin America and how social and environmental justice movements can influence the creation and implementation of environmental public policies. Other areas of interest include the role of environmental defenders and feminism.

Navas has been a visiting scholar at the Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris, at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Florence, Italy and at the London School of Economics (LSE), among others. She currently works as a lecturer in the interdisciplinary Master’s program in Planetary Health at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), the University of Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal). She is actively involved in the Political Ecology Working Group of the Latin American Council on Global Health.

In the winter semester 2025, Navas will come to the University of Vienna as a visiting professor at the Department of Political Science with the Paul-Lazarsfeld Professorship.

Grettel Navas will head a workshop on “Nexus Women – Peace – Climate Justice” on Saturday, November 22nd, from 4:00-7:00pm and participate in the plenary lecture “Justice and Environmental Justice” on Sunday, November 23rd, from 11:15-12:30am.
