In this interactive workshop, participants explore possible futures in the context of peace, justice and global coexistence.
With the help of the “Future box living together in the world”, they develop realistic, utopian or dystopian scenarios in small groups based on selected trend maps.
Based on a self-built desired scenario, they select a prepared design challenge – or formulate their own if required.
The aim is to develop concrete ideas on how fair and peace-promoting coexistence can be made possible in a complex world.
Relation to the conference theme In the context of the conference theme of peace, justice and stable institutions, the participants explore the question of how social change can be actively shaped. The method offers a structured, creative approach to questions about the future and promotes dialog about the scope for action in different environments. The methodology used makes it possible to think of peace not just as the absence of war, but as an active mandate to shape everyday life, institutions and global relationships.
Aims of the workshop
– Experiencing and applying selected methods from the Future Box Living Together in the World to develop scenarios and ideas for solutions.
– Promoting a dialogical, multi-perspective exchange on just and peace-promoting future scenarios.
– Promoting future skills and the ability to engage in dialog in complex, conflictual contexts.
– Reflection on the scenarios developed with regard to social transfer, e.g. for participatory (educational) processes.
– Familiarization with materials and methodological approaches for scenario development and beyond.
Procedure & didactic concept:
1. Activating introduction (30 min.)
– Setting up the future, collecting requests to speak
– Team formation & introduction
– Discussion of future questions in the team (with the help of impulse questions)
– Reflection
2. Introduction & scenario development (90 min.)
– Thematic introduction and presentation of the future box Living together in the world
– Development of future scenarios in small groups with the help of the trend cards, which cover central topics such as power, responsibility, technological development, emotions and global justice. Conclusion with a desired scenario.
– Presentation of individual wish scenarios.
– Introduction of selected additional cards such as megatrend or perspective cards – discussion of the desired scenarios in terms of impact, challenges and opportunities.
3. Challenges (design challenges) & solutions (30 min.)
– Selection or formulation of concrete challenges
– Development of solution ideas
– Presentation of the solutions developed
2. Reflection & transfer (30 min.)
– Reflection on material and method: Experiences and learning processes.
– Discussion about transfer possibilities in different contexts (e.g. education, peace work, political processes)
Requirements for participants
Openness to creative methods; no prior knowledge required.
Consideration of the gender dimension
The workshop methodology relies on a diverse composition of groups in order to promote different perspectives. The gender dimension is explicitly taken into account in the development of scenarios with the trend cards and through the use of the perspective cards, particularly with regard to the impact of future scenarios on different social groups.
