The neoliberal free trade narrative is not coming under pressure from changing geopolitical constellations and the rise of nationalist policies. The negative consequences of largely deregulated global trade for people and the environment are also playing an increasingly prominent role in public discourse. In particular, the so-called EU Supply Chain Act (Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, CSDDD) and the associated debates on binding human rights and environmental standards highlight the social negotiation processes surrounding the future shape of global world trade.
In the forum, we would like to address the question of perspectives for emancipatory action in this new era of globalization. Together with the input providers, we will discuss which global developments can currently contribute to improving the situation of people who have suffered from the consequences of neoliberal globalization. Where are the concrete starting points for progressive action? The discourse surrounding the EU CSDDD forms the starting point for further questions about global standards and the role of global civil society networks.
