Knowing the socio-cultural aspects of indigenous communities in India, particularly those in the State of Jharkhand. More details about the seven indigenous communities with whom we work directly and who are the beneficiaries (viz. Santal, Munda, Ho, Mahali, Bhumij, Sabar and Birhor – the last two belonging to the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups, whose numbers are very less). These communities are all basically nature worshippers and value their freedom very much.
Examining the present day challenges that indigenous society, particularly women, are facing as a result of modernization. Interactive discussion by participants ; exercise on the challenges faced by the Roma in Austria, if any; challenges faced by each participant in her/his context – comparisons, if any.
Sharing initiatives of empowering women to foster gender equality and stopping violence against women, leading to peaceful homes and society. Elaborating the processes and challenges in stopping violence against women. Case studies/stories of change; Short Film followed by interaction; sharing some tools used for breaking gender stereotypes.
Outcomes and impact of becoming gender equal and violence-free families. Restoration of peace and justice at the micro level creating a ripple effect and contributing to the nation’s pledge to forge closer to the global SDGs

Shubhra Dwivedy is CEO and founding member of the Indian non-government organization SEEDS. She has a doctorate in Regional Development. Her work with indigenous women has earned recognition from various agencies. For several years she has been working, among other sectors, on the empowerment of indigenous women and rights of children in conflict areas.
