The struggle for social justice – thus also for a realization of SDG target 10 („less inequality“) – is at the core of numerous conflict areas of the agricultural and food system, from the local to the global level. Central to this is the question: Who shapes our agricultural and food systems? Who has access to (what) resources? In recent years, corporations have been able to increasingly expand their spheres of influence, along the entire chain from production to trade as well as at the political level. At the same time, alternative paths such as that of agroecology are gaining more and more importance, and initiatives such as democratic supermarkets are opening up new perspectives in the field of food trade. With the adoption of the UN Smallholder Declaration 2018, the rights of farmers could be strengthened and the third summit of the food sovereignty movement is imminent. In the forum, we will discuss these and other solutions to the conflicts surrounding inequality in the agricultural and food system together with international speakers.
