For some time now, we have been witnessing the relocation of entire industrial sectors to the Global South, with control of the value chain generally remaining in the Global North. Some Chinese corporations show that these rules are in flux. The COVID19 pandemic has also led to some „relocalization“ back to the Global North; as a keyword, relocalization continues to be discussed.
Industrialization does create jobs, but not just well-paying ones. How can industrial policy contribute to increasing or decreasing inequality? To what extent can sustainable industrial policy shape industrialization ecologically? What to make of the various concepts for a „Green (New) Deal“? How should we assess the current push for supply chain legislation? What about the Austrian raw materials strategy? In the forum we will also deal with Upper Austria’s role as a globally embedded industrial location.
